Steampunk Garage

Maxfield Arts and the Fun Bike Unicorn Club (FBUC) present an exciting new attraction for Harmony Festival 2011 titled The Steampunk Garage, including Santa Rosa-based builders also known as Whiskeydrunk Cycles, Todd Barricklow, Krank-Boom-Clank and The Feed Barn, all of whom are intimately entwined with the North Bay's popular annual Hand-car Regatta.
You'll discover this new attraction integrated seamlessly into the Eco Rally Action Sports and Skate Zone turning the entire area into a eclectic feast of fast-paced action where kinetic scuptors and bicycle daredevils present unique, pedal-powered contraptions and a velodrome* performance exhibit well into the night.
Throughout the weekend, multiple wholly unique, human-powered vehicles (plus a handful of "freakbikes") will be on display and paraded through the greater Harmony Festival grounds. The inventors and artists who create and ride the vehicles will be on hand for photo opportunities and to provide information to curiosity seekers.
Each of the vehicles is a large-scale and unique invention, completely designed and handmade by the riders themselves. Some of the vehicles require the strength of four riders to operate, while others are designed to rely only on the power provided by one individual. Festivalgoers can speak with the makers or just get out of the way...both are welcome and appreciated.
Death-defying performances continue throughout the weekend with feats of derring-do for public spectacle in the WhiskeyDrome, a large velodrome exhibition complete with carnival lights and canopy.
Performances are on the whim of the riders, their stamina, and, of course, your awe-inspired cheers!
So don't miss The Steampunk Garage to see first-hand the post-apocolyptic "pedalpunk" and "Maker" vision, infused with a dash of "carnival" and a hint of the "vaudeville-esque" - Harmony style!

** Traditionally the velodrome is an arena for track cycling. The WhiskeyDrome is a one-of-a-kind structure that measures 30’ wide and is constructed primarily of wood. The WhiskeyDrome is based on photographs of a similar structure that was built and used as a favorite carnival attraction in the early 1900’s.
