Rootz Underground is one of Jamaica's younger bands who are paving their way with positive vibrations. Rootz Underground emerged in 2000, in a blaze of high-energy performances, conscious lyrics and a harmonic alternative reggae sound that marries their intellectual, spiritual and creative energies. Their brand of reggae music is inspiring, energizing, and real. It’s progressively unique and edgy with a modern hip hop feel infused with slivers of jazz, rock and revolutionary dub.
Rootz Underground’s first single, Victims of The System, held the number one position on MTV Tempo's Cross Caribbean Countdown for nearly two months, and peaked at number two on both Hype TV's video charts and RETV's video countdown. Their single, Hammer, instantly became the newest anthem for lovers of Roots Reggae everywhere.
Over the past decade, Rootz Underground has been digging their 'rootz' in the industry and its old soul has effortlessly enlisted a core of followers worldwide. The band envisages the future free from the shackles of Babylon - taking the Rootz Underground message far and wide as their sole life's-work. As they say, prayer and hard work reaps rewards - Their journey has only just begun. Revolution reggae music - edgy, raw, natural, roots...that's Rootz Underground.

HOPE SUSTAINED IN EXILE…
Now based in San Francisco, a small group of master Tibetan performers have joined together to form Chaksam-pa, offering a unique art to a world audience in a rare opportunity, in the hopes of sustaining nearly-lost cultural traditions for another generation.
Chaksam-pa performs Tibetan drama, music and dance of the highest standard, and their performance at Harmony Festival offers a rare opportunity for Westerners.
Fostering the appreciation of Tibetan culture and drawing attention to its threatened survival, the ensemble continues the traditions by providing material support, training, summer camps and encouragement to young Tibetans. Their mission includes offering recordings and documenting performances in the Tibetan refugee communities for preservation and study; initiating cultural exchange programs to explore the common language of performance with artists of other traditions; and establishing a Tibetan Performing Arts and Cultural Center as a focus for their activities, right here in San Francisco.
Gaudi
DATE: Friday, June 10thTIME: 1:30 AM
(after June 10th midnight)
STAGE: Grace Pavilion
(with Quixotic)
Gaudi's eclectic style and versatility has kept him at the forefront of his field throughout a notable and prolific career. His music, which is an organic fusion of dub, world and nu-beat, is in production, on the playlists and regularly performed live in the UK and internationally. He has been stretching the boundaries of music since the start of his career in the early eighties. However, from a very young age the Italian born Gaudi cultivated his obsession with music by constantly searching for and experimenting with new forms of sounds and grooves. A classically trained pianist with a fascination for anything that could produce sound distortion, his musical foundations were set in electronic and reggae music. We welcome Gaudi back to Harmony Festival in 2011.

(Techno-Tribal Dance)
Voted "Best Performing Arts Group" by Kansas City Magazine. For the past five years, Kansas City based group Quixotic has created a full spectrum of music with sounds rich in electronic tones that soar and twist from emotive rich classical string progressions to driving tribal dance music. Composer Anthony Magliano, along with an award winning band including violinist Shane Borth, keyboardist/vocalist Laura Scarborough, drummer Brandon Draper and Rick Willoughby on Bass, create music with instrumental foundations and diversity that is meant to inspire movement within the group's other half: dancers, multimedia designers, and aerialists.
Quixotic's use of effects, synths and laptops harness technology in a unique way that's never been seen, or heard, before. The innovative musical technology is combined with the fierce and organic rhythm section to create a marriage between two musical worlds within the five-piece band. This musical combination creates a foundation for the dancers, aerialists and multimedia designers to freely explore themselves creatively. The result is a full sensory experience like none other.
