John Robbins, who will be speaking with his son Ocean Robbins, is the only son of the founder of the Baskin-Robbins ice cream empire. He was groomed to follow in his father’s footsteps, but chose to walk away from Baskin-Robbins and the immense wealth it represented to "pursue the deeper American Dream...the dream of a society at peace with its conscience because it respects and lives in harmony with all life forms.”
John Robbins is a popular blogger on THE HUFFINGTON POST and author of the recently published THE NEW GOOD LIFE: LIVING BETTER THAN EVER IN AN AGE OF LESS and six other bestsellers, DIET FOR A NEW AMERICA, THE FOOD REVOLUTION, HEALTHY AT 100, MAY ALL BE FED, THE AWAKENED HEART, and RECLAIMING OUR HEALTH. He is the founder of EarthSave International and a compelling voice for a just, sustainable and compassionate world.
In 1989, at age 15, Ocean Robbins co-founded the Creating Our Future environmental speaking tour, on which he and three other participants spoke in person to more than 30,000 students, presented for 2,000 people at the United Nations, and opened for the Jerry Garcia band in San Francisco. At age 16, he co-founded YES! (yesworld.org), which he directed for 20 years. Ocean has spoken in person to 200,000 people and facilitated dozens of gatherings for leaders from 65+ nations. Ocean is author of The Power of Partnership and co-author of Choices for Our Future, and has served as a board member for Friends of the Earth, EarthSave, and many other organizations. He is a 2008 recipient of the Freedom's Flame Award, and of the national Jefferson Award for Outstanding Public Service by an Individual 35 Years or Younger--the "Nobel Prize" for public service. When not speaking at conferences and universities, Ocean lives happily in the mountains of Santa Cruz, California, with his beloved wife Michele and their twin boys, River and Bodhi. They live 100 yards from Ocean’s parents, including John Robbins with whom Ocean will be speaking at Harmony Festival.
