Reuse, Reuse, Reuse, then Recycle and Restore



To  paraphrase Julia Butterfly Hill at the (Health & ) Harmony Festival years ago, "If you're making garbage but not asking it out at your progressive events, do Mother Nature a favor...Stay home. "Short, sweet, to the point - how visuinary are we with overflowing trash cans?  This event  has been ona crusade ever since to make more soil than garbage!

But better than making soil out of items made, shipped and used for but fragments of their useful lives,  reusing waes is the way to go, and to come, to Harmony 2011!

In those situations where you don't happen to have our own wares the Green Mary vigilantes will be composting everything that was alive in your lifetime.  Ratcheting up the "party with a purpose," bring on the worms!   This year, we're bringing all our organic waste to a local worm ranch.   Plates, napkins, cups and utensils made from plant sources - drop them in the green compost cans.

There are over 100 EcoStations throughout the festival venue and we ask you to do your part.  We've got signs posted at the food vendor booths and on the Ecostations lids - follow them, please!  Some of the cups are compostable, some are recyclable.  If you want to know more,  ask anyone with a gren team shirt on - we'll be everywhere!

While we do sort through every bag at the event, we'd rather be out intermingling perhaps gently educating at the stations.  Please help us get out of the dumpsters by doing your part.  Look for the tall signs with the recycling symbol on them to bring your stuff to the cans - you'll find a  Green Compost, Blue Recycling and Black Landfill container at event location.

The only "garbage" is really soiled plastics, chip bags, squeeze juice packets, and styrofoam you might have smuggled in,s  zip ties, and duct tape.  That black can should be nearly empty.  Work hard with us, while playing hard, to leave it that way.

Harmony Festival is a community event, which means that everyone is on the Green Team.  When the lights come up on the main field after the last show each night, bags will be handed out and we're enrolling every music-loving, earth-honoring reveler to clean up around his or her space.  It beongs to all of us and it's up to all of us  to keep it clean.  Same with the campgrounds;  you'll have bags to keep it all picked up and sorted by type.

At Harmony next year, we might be able to  send you home with a bag of worm-generated soil amemdment made from this year's event waste colllected June 10, 11 & 12.
