The West Coast's premier all-weekend camping and music festival...
Celebrating 31 years of new ideas, community
activism, eco-awareness, spiritual wisdom, visionary art, and uplifting
music, the producers of Harmony Festival (www.harmonyfestival.com)
are very pleased to confirm that this increasingly popular
event—which has been described as a hybrid between Burning Man
and Bioneers—will once again be held at the Sonoma County
Fairgrounds, this year on June 12, 13, and 14, 2009.
The 2009 30th anniversary celebration drew a
record-breaking crowd of more than 30,000 attendees and the 2009
festival promises to be even more impressive. Preparations are already
well under way, and the festival theme as well as the roster of
world-class musicians, speakers, and performers will be announced in
early March. Harmony Festival CEO Howard “Bo” Sapper
explains, “We are in the planning stage of what promises to be
the most engaging and powerful festival yet. In this time of great need
we are encouraged by the amazing level of care and support we are
receiving for the Harmony Festival cause, both here at home and from
the global community.”
As always, the Harmony Festival is a
“green”, multi-generational, family-friendly gathering with
a wealth of attractions including a dynamic kids zone and the addition
of a world-class, youth-oriented action sports village. More than 300
vendors will provide sumptuous food and an amazing shopping experience.
There will again be a variety of interactive workshops in the
Eco-Village and Healing Sanctuary, exploring the latest in
environmental awareness and alternative health. There will also be film
screenings, community dialogues, and of course the nightly Harmony
After Dark, Saturday afternoon People’s Parade, the legendary
Techno Tribal Dance on Saturday night, and the closing night ceremony
and charity fundraiser After Party on Sunday.
Program Director Sean Ahern comments,
“Although there are many socio-economic challenges on the
horizon, and our country and our planet are going through an
unprecedented period of upheaval and transformation, it is encouraging
to note that many of the proposed solutions to these challenges are
shared core principles that Harmony Festival has championed for over 30
years.”
Building on a four decade-long commitment to green and sustainable
business values, the 2008 festival attained a new level of success,
including diverting nearly 16 tons of recyclables, compost and garbage.
Along with all of the great musical performances—including Damian
Marley, George Clinton, Angelique Kidjo, Mickey Hart, Lila Downs,
Arrested Development, Jefferson Starship and others—in 2009 the
festival will expand its unique "progressive county fair" platform,
incorporating a diverse variety of "edutainment"—entertainment
& educational programming that promotes the creative arts,
sustainable business and healthy living.
